ニッケルオデオン”とは、当時のアメリカを横行していた、一巻ないしは二巻ものの短編を上映して大人から子供まで多くの人を引きつけていた映画館の俗称で、その意味は５セント白銅貨の俗称〈ニッケル〉とギリシャ語から借用した〈オデオン＝（劇場）〉をくっつけたというもの。
